Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?

Do you ever find yourself refraining from smiling at a friend or laughing at a funny joke? Being embarrassed by your smile is no laughing matter. Nonverbal cues (body language) make up over 50% of what is expressed in normal communication. Smiling conveys many things, including approval, approachability, and confidence to name a few.  You can achieve your best smile with porcelain veneers in Wake Forest thanks to the experience of Dr. Winkelmann.

Dental veneers in Wake Forest, NC

Teeth whitening can only brighten your smile. It does nothing to correct chips or gaps. Orthodontics and full restoration with crowns can be time consuming and expensive. Today’s porcelain veneers offer an excellent solution to this problem and have become one of the most common dental procedures sought after by those who want to improve their smile so they can express their true feelings.

How do veneers work?

Veneers are made of thin (but strong) pieces of porcelain. After getting an impression of your teeth, the Dr. Winkelmann will have a lab produce the actual individual veneers. Each porcelain shell gets bonded to the front of the corresponding tooth and shaded to your preferred color, or to match other surrounding teeth.

Porcelain veneers are strong, stain resistant, and long-lasting (15 to 20 years) which means you can treat them the same as your natural teeth and continue to enjoy your favorite foods.

What problems do veneers fix?

  • Gaps in Teeth
  • Chips in Teeth
  • Broken Teeth
  • Misaligned Teeth
  • Crooked or Crowded Teeth
  • Misshaped Teeth
  • Severely Discolored Teeth

After-care for veneers

Just like natural teeth, your veneers must be cared for and certain habits avoided like biting nails and chewing on ice.

Brush and floss! Don’t use your teeth to open packaging or other items. Avoid chewing on your fingernails, ice, and other hard substances. If you grind your teeth at night, talk to your dentist about having a night guard prescribed for you to protect your new smile. Avoid excessive liquor consumption as alcohol can degrade the strong adhesive that we use to bond the veneer to the tooth. Stay away from dark-colored beverages and sweets and always brush (and floss) your teeth after snacks and meals. Follow up with your dentist and keep all scheduled appointments to ensure the longevity of your smile.
